Banana won the poll

banana yarn came out tops in the poll. The one i had available is a deep cerise pink & absolutely the softest yarn to knit with.

Busy few days helping a friend that has recently had a stroke , being a busy mum & carer & have just arrived home soaked from the rain  after being out delivering Leytonstone Art Trail leaflets.

Now in sat at the computer & the sun has come out……….. that’s life

Sunday morning musings

[slideshow

I have woken early & seen a peep of sunshine so have had my spirits lifted.

So far the Poll results are showing banana yarn as favourite to knit with me today. The banana yarn i have is a beautiful turquoise colour so will contrast nicely to the oranges/pinks of the last few days.

The yarns over the last few days have been in bright carnival type colours in celebration of the art trails coming up.The 1st time i’ve ever done anything like this , anything “arty ” & i am loving it & slightly nervous about being in art trails too.

The batteries are charging for the camera so photos are taken with my old mobile phone…i hope they’ve captured some of the exuberance of the yarns.

The hollyhock was spotted by my local bus stop …i have been inspired to knit one…i’m sure suitable yarn will be found in the donations drawer.

I am going to try some yoga with my daughter at a leisure centre nearby today…hope it helps to shift the last of this cold/cough/ear/chest/tonsillitus thing i’ve had for over a week.

Exploring on Day 265

Day 265 had a sense of deja vu about it as i went SOAS again after signing up for another course ; this time in book making.

I had a walk through some London gardens & spotted a tree that had the shape of a pregnant woman in Russell Square.

The yarns used over the last 2 days are a donated yellow cotton &  turquoise banana yarn.

I’ve had a letter from The Woolley Bus Project re my knnited squares for their project.I’m still knitting squares but sadly so far haven’t found enough people willing to sponser me …………….. so if anybody would like to sponser me to raise money for Martletts Hospice please contact me via the blog  , thanks.

Photos are of day 209 ( recycled sari yarn ) day 210 (handspun shetland by Sue of Knit Nottingham ) & day 211 ( so so soft banana yarn )

The photo of the piece so far was taken today  along with Tallulah ( aka The Batcat ) inspecting the work .

The sun is shining today so am off out to enjoy it.

days 62 & 63

A very difficult few days.My daughter has relapsed so has been a few days of health care professional visiting, meeting & phoning.

I managed to get out today ( day 63 ) to my local knit group.

Margaret gave me some acrylic yarn , a plum/pink colour.

I’ve somehow managed to knit.Found the strength to continue with the project by my partners absolute belief in me.

So i’m finding it hard to blog about what is happening as so much has & is ongoing.Sometimes i only have 1 minute to be able to get online & blog…i want to write so much & then when i’m sat in front of the computer i’m too tired or emotionally exhausted to express myself in words.

Anyway onto day 62 …the yarn is another of the banana yarns, a gorgeous deep cerise colour…such a soft yarn to knit with.

photos tomorrow.

Day 15

Day 15 has been a day of being treated.

My friend Maggie took me out for a manicure & nails painted , followed by a yummy lunch of indian food.

My nails are a turquoise glittery colour so i’ve been drawn to yarn of the same colour.

It is another banana yarn , vegan silk, so so soft & such a great colour.

I’m looking forward to a quiet , relaxing weekend, maybe some new books from the library & plenty of knitting.

The scarf is started & looking good so far knitting on large chunky wooden needles.

yesterday at the knit group i was talking about making your own kniting needles & discovered that chopsticks make good needles. So today i’ve had a browse about the internet & have found this blog post with instructions from the Frugal Family Fun Blog

http://www.frugalfamilyfunblog.com/2009/09/diy-bamboo-knitting-needles.html

Spare chopsticks anyone ??????????

Day 5

Today i knitted in the garden in a break in the rain , sat at the table with a pot of earl grey tea & the sounds of grasshoppers.

The yarn today is banana yarn , yes , banana yarn.It is my favourite yarn.It feels so soft & silk like , so is a perfect vegan silk.

Characteristics of Banana Fiber
Banana fiber is a natural bast fiber. It has its own physical and chemical characteristics and many other properties that make it a fine quality fiber.
Appearance of banana fiber is similar to that of bamboo fiber and ramie fiber, but its fineness and spinnability is better than the two.
The chemical composition of banana fiber is cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin.
It is highly strong fiber.
It has smaller elongation.
It has somewhat shiny appearance depending upon the extraction & spinning process.
It is light weight.
It has strong moisture absorption quality. It absorbs as well as releases moisture very fast.
It is bio- degradable and has no negative effect on environment and thus can be categorized as eco-friendly fiber.
Its average fineness is 2400Nm.
It can be spun through almost all the methods of spinning including ring spinning, open-end spinning, bast fiber spinning, and semi-worsted spinning among others.
